PAD 7/31/12-8/6/12

Well, hello there! How are you doing? I would love to blame busyness as the reason for my tardiness in posting, but I can't. Well, I guess I have been busy--busy enjoying the weather and a slow week. :o)

7/31/12
Here's an update on Bob. Yes, Michelle named the caterpillar Bob. He may turn out to be a Barb, but we won't know that for a couple of weeks. It seems that I found the little guy just in time. The day after we adopted him, we found him like this.

Do you see the strings holding him up? He was getting ready to pupate into a chrysalis. He just hung there like that all day.

This is what he looked like on Wednesday. I believe he was fully pupated (is that a word?) at this point. Pretty cool to see.

The research we did said that he would need room to spread his wings when he came out as a butterfly so we needed to get him out of the bug cage home he was in. The stick was kind of short, but a few twistie ties and another stick solved that problem. Now he has a home on a bookshelf in the office. We have an awesome, unobstructed view of him, yet he's out of the way and won't get bumped or knocked over. I did put a paper towel on the shelf after I took this picture 'cause they say he will release some yellow liquid when he comes out and I don't really want that staining up the shelf.

One day this week, Michelle and I spent a couple of hours at the church helping to clean out and organize one of the storage rooms. After that we picked up lunch and had a picnic at the park.

Here's another critter picture for you. Michelle went out to see what Layla was barking at in the yard. Layla never barks. She's the quiet one in the house, so to hear her bark, we knew there must really be something out there. This is what she found hiding under the gas tank.

He's cute and ugly all at the same time. Although I didn't really want a mole hanging out at our place, I didn't want to mess with him either. Those claws look sharp!

I took advantage of not having any cakes to do this week to work on some gumpaste flowers for a dummy (display) cake. I'm hoping to finish it sometime this week so we can display it in the store that I teach decorating classes in.

My goal this week was to get some scrapbooking done. I really haven't done any in years. I've done a page or two here and there, but not much, and the books are getting really behind. Since Angel will be graduating from her cosmetology school in October, and we're planning on having a celebration for her near Thanksgiving, I thought maybe I should try and get hers as close to updated as possible. I didn't realize I hadn't done any pages in her book since 2005! AACK! That's a lot of photos to scrap. I was feeling overwhelmed and didn't really want to start since I have so many other projects to do around here, but Mike encouraged me to get some photos printed and just do it. I'm glad I did.  I'm also grateful for an awesome office space that I can scrap in, leave the projects out when needed, and keep working whenever I get a minute or two.

This week has been pretty mellow for Michelle and I. Angel, on the other hand,  has had things a little busier than usual since she has moved back in with us full time. The family she was staying with needs the room she was using for their older daughter, so she will be commuting back and forth from our place to school. Thankfully, it's summer time and we don't have to worry about her sliding off the road in a snow storm this time of year and it stays lighter much longer which helps too. We're glad to have her home more. :o) Now if I could just get her out of her room long enough for me to get some pictures of her.

We put up an overhead dog run when we first got Layla, but she doesn't use it anymore. A couple of weeks ago, when it was super hot, I decided to use it to hang the clothes out so I wouldn't heat the house up anymore than needed with the dryer. It worked great, so now I'm continuing to hang them out whenever I can. Michelle has been helping me lately. One side of the line is pretty low, so she hangs her own clothes up there. We just have to remember to bring the clothes in before bedtime...especially if there's a rainstorm coming. ;o)

I guess that updates the blog for now. I'm going to go work on some scrapbook pages.

Till next time...
God's love and blessings!
